A profile report is a document that provides detailed information about a registered business, corporation or organization in Canada. Company profile reports may be used for a variety of purposes, such as determining who owns a business or who the current directors of a corporation or Not For Profit Organization are, the business registration or corporate address, how long the business has existed and business activity.  Often profile reports are requested by individuals involved in the business to ensure their business or corporate record is up-to-date, others seek this information to ensure they are contracting with a legitimate business and sometimes the documentation is used for civil litigation.

Profile reports are available within the provincial databases within the jurisdiction where a business is incorporated or registered. Some businesses are incorporated federally, and the information is listed with the federal corporation registry instead of a provincial jurisdiction. For example, an Ontario corporation or business registration would be listed in Ontario and available when you select an Ontario search request.  A federal corporation is available when you select the Federal/Canada search to gain corporate profile information.  A federal corporation is governed by Corporations Canada under the Canada Business Corporations Act, and an Ontario corporation is governed under the Ontario Business Corporations Act.

What Happens Once the Corporation Profile Is Ordered?

We will search the business or corporation name to ensure we have the exact match as the name within the jurisdiction as requested. If either the business name or jurisdiction appear to be incorrect, our head office will email you with similar named businesses for you to select from within the jurisdiction you have provided.

How Accurate is the Information?

The information is accurate as to the details provided the prior day.

If any changes occur such as an address change of the head office for the incorporation or the address for business name registered, the owners, directors or officers of the business or activity of the business, it is the responsibility of the owners of the business to update the corporate or registered business name information held with the provincial or federal corporate registry. Often, updates do not happen although many provinces have now regulated mandatory updates such as Annual Returns for both profit and not for profit corporations with provincial and federal governments. Corporations must now file an Annual Return to maintain compliance and provide any changes the corporation has had on its anniversary month of incorporation to maintain good standing within the home jurisdiction.

Can I Search For an Individual to Find a Business?

No, a corporation profile report doesn’t have a cross reference from a personal name to a business. You will need to have the business name registered for us to complete theis corporate profile search.

How Can I Search an Individual For a Business Owned?

There are alternative searches that you can complete with us that may show a connection between an individual and the business they operate.  We recommend completing a PPSA search or litigation search within the jurisdiction the person lives.
